Rust Grip®

The ultimate for rust prevention and protection

Rust Grip® is a metallic-based, moisture-cure one-part polyurethane, encapsulating coating that will coat over and seal most surfaces against corrosion, weathering, and physical wear. Rust Grip® is a “three-coats-in-one system” that acts as a primer, intermediate, and topcoat.

In normal use, Rust Grip® will apply over a surface and immediately find and fill the pores of the surface. Within an hour of application, it will begin to cure atmosphericly. During this cure cycle, Rust Grip® will pull moisture from the air and begin to microscopically swell within the individual pores as it hardens. This process anchors the coating and seals against any possibility of air, moisture, or any minerals attacking the surface and causing any further corrosion or penetration of any kind.

Rust Grip® is used to coat directly over existing rusted surface with minor prep but cleaned off and any loose materials removed. It is used to encapsulate over existing Lead-based paints or asbestos. It covers over metal, concrete, wood, fiberglass and other building materials to strengthen the surface to a 6780psi surface tensile strength. It has a 0.24 permeability to prevent moisture load.

It is a tested water barrier for concrete walls to outperform the dry lock concrete seal system. Used in Oil fields, heavy industrial, commercial and residential. It is UL, FM, USDA, Coast Guard approved and holds the Gold Certificate for Green Product (LEED) approval. Single component solvent based.

Rust Grip® is designed for the encapsulation of and adherence to tightly-bonded surfaces of lead-based and other toxic paints as well as rusted surfaces. This unique ability is accomplished by the curing mechanism of the base polymer. The coating (having a low initial viscosity) wets the rusty surface, then penetrates to the foundation of the rust's origin where curing begins. The polymer literally begins to swell, developing an interlocking network between the pores of the surface and the coating.

Rust Grip® is highly recommended as a base coat for Super Therm®. No pot life, no canalization, no two-part mixing. Can substitute for zinc-rich primer requiring no white sandblasting. Can be applied over rusted surfaces after loose/flaking material Is is removed. High humidity quickens dry/cure cycle.

Rust Grip® has passed EPA encapsulation test: ASTM E-1795.

Rust Grip® applied to a corrosive bridge

Benefits

  • Excellent for minimally prepared surfaces, ie. no white sandblasting is needed.
  • Protects steel, aluminum, concrete, wood, fiberglass, lead-based paints, and other substrates.
  • Moisture Barrier that stops water penetration, prevents corrosion and surface deterioration, and repels dirt, mold, and mildew.
  • Extremely tough, it makes an excellent floor coating. Hardens to 6780 psi surface tensile strength.
  • Patented for encapsulating bio-hazardous materials (asbestos, lead-based paint, and many hazardous materials) and existing rusted surfaces.
  • Submergible in 100% nitric acid without any effects. Designed to withstand acids, salts, and caustics with no loss of integrity.
  • Rated as a Class A fire coating. In case of fire, Rust Grip® will help to prevent spread of, and will not contribute to, the fire.
  • Prevents water penetration. Performs as a permanent moisture barrier that stops water penetration and prevents surface deterioration, contamination, and formation of mold and mildew.
  • Paint Directly on firmly bonded paint
  • 15+ year lifespan under normal conditions.

Application

Can power wash with solvent wipe down, light commercial blast, or power hand tool to remove loose flake and debris before applying. Can use power tool (within the guidelines of Clean Air Act) with vacuum to prep lead-based paints (as discussed at Steel Structures Painting Council--SSPC--. Meeting March 15-17 attended by EPA and NIOSH) before applying Rust Grip® over lead-based paints. Possible alternative to abatement of lead paints. Surfaces should be clean, dry and sound. Existing surface dirt, oil, tar, grease and film should be removed from surface by approved methods (TSP-Tri-Sodium Phosphate or equivalent) prior to application of RUST GRIP. MUST BE COMPLETELY DRY.

Important
Stir product thoroughly before using. Rust Grip® can be applied by brush, roller or spray equipment. It should be applied evenly without buildup. Apply in a 2-coat application system. CAUTION: Wear gloves and protective clothing. Extremely tough to clean off skin. Throw away brushes and rollers after use. Wear eye protection. SOLVENT: Clean-up or reduction, use MEK or MIBK. If sprayed, keep solvent ready to clean equipment before breaks (lunch hour) or at conclusion of job. *CLEAN IMMEDIATELY OR WILL RUIN EQUIPMENT.

Cautions and Warning
Wear skin and eye protection. Do not take internally. Avoid contact with eyes. If solution does come in contact with eyes, flush immediately with water and contact a physician for medical attention. Avoid prolonged contact with skin or breathing of spray mist. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. This is a flammable liquid. Keep away from flame or fire or other sources of ignition.

Overcoat within 1 to 4 hours.
Note: Will accept other coatings such as Supertherm, but will not accept itself after 4 hours).

May be used by itself without a top coat. Excellent adhesion to wide variety of substrates. Attaches itself into the pores of metal or concrete and expands to lock into them.

Cures by reacting to moisture in the air.
Guards against all corrosions.
Not affected by acid splash.

A portion of a container may be used and re-sealed for later use. A skin will form on surface of product. Remove skin and use as directed.
